How to SCUBA After Cataract Surgery
- 1). Tell your eye doctor that you plan to SCUBA dive after cataract surgery. When you are discussing the surgery with your eye surgeon, talk about your plans for SCUBA diving and discuss any potential risks or complications that may arise.
- 2). Wait the required amount of time after the surgery before attempting to SCUBA dive. Most ophthalmologists recommend waiting at least three months after surgery before SCUBA diving, according to Dr. Fred Bove of Scuba Med. Be sure to follow your doctor's instructions carefully to avoid injury.
- 3). Visit the eye doctor again after waiting the required amount of time to make sure that your eyes have healed from the surgery. This way the doctor can give you the green light for SCUBA diving, and you will not have to worry about injury or potential problems.
- 4). Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any problems with your vision, including eye pain, during or after SCUBA diving. Your doctor will want to check your eyes to be sure that they have healed properly and have not been harmed by the pressure of SCUBA diving.
