    • 1). Rinse off the area with a garden hose with a nozzle attachment. Stand 5 to 6 feet away from the tree, and move the water across the affected area. Avoid using a pressure washer, as this will damage the tree's delicate bark.

    • 2). Soak a rag with mineral spirits. Wear rubber gloves when handling the mineral spirits to avoid any skin irritation.

    • 3). Wipe down the affected area with the damp rag, and allow it to sit for 10 to 15 minutes.

    • 4). Rinse off the mineral spirits with the garden hose. Do not stand directly in front of the tree when hosing off the mineral spirits to avoid any hitting your skin.

    • 5). Apply the mineral spirits a second time if there are still any traces of paint. Again, allow the mineral spirits to sit for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing it away with the garden hose.
