    • 1). Obtain a passport. This can be done by visiting a post office if you live in the United States. (Note that not all post offices offer passport services. See Resources section to find the closest one for you.) If you live elsewhere, check local laws for obtaining your passport.

    • 2). Decide on your departure city. Many Mediterranean cruises depart from Italy or Spain.

    • 3). Find your cruise. You can use the website of the cruise line of your choice or use one of the various searches to find deals across multiple cruise line sites. Be sure to choose the month of December and the year you would like to sail from the drop-down menus.

    • 4). Book your cruise. Follow the directions on the website where you find your cruise and click on "Book" or "Select" to continue reserving your cabin.

    • 5). Select your cabin type. For more information on each cabin type (interior, exterior, balcony), consult the website for the cruise line you will be sailing.

    • 6). Select your sail dates. (Note that Step 5 and Step 6 may be reversed depending upon the site you are using.)

    • 7). Enter information requested by the website. This will include how many passengers will be traveling, their ages, dining preferences and whether you would like to search for airfare. (Note that the order of information requested will vary depending upon which web site you use.)

    • 8). Click continue and finalize your trip. This step will require the submission of payment or, at least, a deposit to guarantee your booking.
