Pregnancy is divided into 3 trimesters of 9 months:-
  • Ø First trimester
  • Ø Second trimester
  • Ø Third trimester
  • Ø First trimester:-

The first trimester includes first week to 12th week. The body undergoes many changes, hormonal change effects  approximately every body organs. It shows the early symptoms of pregnancy like tiredness,swollen breast,cravings and distaste to various foods,constipation,mood swings heartburn,headache,weight gain and loss and more often urination.

As the pregnancy proceeds, daily routine should be improved like go to bed a bit earlier. Discomforts ends usually as the pregnancy proceeds.
  • Ø Second trimester:-

The second trimester starts from 13th week upto 28th week. The second trimester is quite easier than first one. The nausea and fatigue usually ends. The abdomen expands and other body changes occurs, like body aches of back, abdomen, groin and thigh pain.

Stretch marks on abdomen,breast,thighs and buttocks.

Darkening of skin around nipples.

Patches of darker skin on cheeks,nose,forehead and upperlips.

Swelling of ankles,face and fingers.
  • Ø Third trimester:-

The third trimester is started from 29th to 40th week. The abdomen becomes more bumpy. Symptoms of second trimester continues and it may cause difficulty in breathing but its natural it ends when birth is given to the baby. More often use bathroom because as the baby grows it increases pressure on the organs. Symptoms in third are usually shortness of breath, heartburn,swelling in ankles and face, tender breast may leak white watery fluid colostrums,trouble sleeping, contractions of uterus cause false labor and movement of baby in lower abdomen.

The abdomen gets thinner and dilated it is because of dilation of vaginal canal for the easy delivery of baby.

Growth of baby during weeks:-
  • At 4 weeks, the brain, spinal cord, heart begins to form. Arms and leg buds begin to form. Baby is now called embryo and 25 inches long.
  • At 8 weeks, all major body organs and external body features begin to form. Arms and leg grows larger finger and toes begin to form. Heartbeat develop with regular rythms and sex organs begins to form. Eyes moves forward to the face and eyelids begin to form. Umbilical  cord become clearly visible. It is more like humans and called fetus.
  • At 12 weeks, the nerves and muscles begins working       together.Baby can make fist. External sex organs are visible and may be able to find sex of baby by ultrasound. Eyelids close to protect the eyes which are developing. It will not open again until the 28th week. Head growth has been slowed and baby is much longer.
  • At  16 weeks, the muscle and bone contines forming making complete skeleton and skin begins to form. Meconium develops in baby's intestinal tract. It  will be the first bowel movement of the baby. Baby makes sucking motions with mouth and  reaches about the length of 4 to 5 inches.
  • At 20 weeks, baby becomes more active and might feel slight fluttering. Baby becomes covered with fine downy hair called lanugo and waxy layer coating. It  protects the skin underneath. Eyebrows,eyelashes,nails have been formed can even scratch itself. Baby can also hear and swallow.
  • At 24 weeks, the bone marrow begins forming blood cells and tastebuds form on the tongue of the baby. Real hair begins to grow, lungs are formed but not working, footprints and fingerprints have formed. Baby sleeps and wakes regularly. If baby is a boy his testes begins to move into scrotum from the abdomen. If baby is girl, the uterus and ovaries are held in place for lifetime supply of eggs.
  • At 32 weeks, baby bones are fully formed but still soft. Baby movement and kicks are forceful, eyes can open and close,lungs are not fully formed but practicing breathing movements. Body of baby begins to store essential minerals, such as iron and calcium. Lanugo begins to fall off, gaining weight quickly and weighs about 4 to 4.5 pounds.
  • At 36 weeks, body fat increases and body size becomes bigger and bigger, movements becomes less forceful.
  • At 37 to 40 weeks, the baby is fully developed and organs are fully functional to work by itself. The baby may turn head down position near the days of delivery.
