How to Choose My Bridal Gown
- 1). Determine when and where the wedding will take place. This is crucial to know before choosing a bridal gown. If it is a winter wedding, the dress should not be a short and light summer style dress. For a summer beach wedding, a formal bridal gown is not suitable. This should be decided before the dress shopping begins.
- 2). Leaf through bridal magazines to determine the best dress silhouettes for your body type. "Martha Stewart Weddings" is one magazine option (See Resources). Just as with other clothing, certain styles and shapes of dresses work well on some bodies and others do not. Make a note of dresses that you like and the designer information.
- 3). Make appointments with bridal boutiques. This will ensure that you will receive adequate personal attention when choosing your bridal gown. Bring the maid of honor or a bridesmaid with you for support. During the appointments, spend time looking at the gowns and trying on different dresses.
- 4). Plan to have someone take pictures of you wearing the bridal gowns. Not all bridal shops will allow people to take pictures. Ask for permission first. Have the person who goes with you take the pictures. You can refer back to these pictures after shopping and reassess which ones looked best.
- 5). Determine the right dress for your budget. There is a wide variance of prices for bridal gowns. The right dress for your wedding will also fit right into your budget.
