How to Make a Wiccan Prayer Cloth
- 1). Choose a cloth. If the person you wish to heal is a member of your coven or magickal group, a cloth from a ritual costume will have deep significance for the healers and the patient. Otherwise, choose either a green or blue cloth, as both of these colors represent healing energy.
- 2). Choose a symbol to draw on the cloth. There are many traditional symbols to choose from. The caduceus, or wand of Hermes, was symbolic of healing in the ancient world and is used to represent the medical profession today. This symbol may be appropriate if the illness is complex and you wish to invoke the god of wisdom. The Egyptian ankh stands for "life" and represents the conjunction of the god and goddess. This symbol may be used for general healing by representing wholeness. The pentagram may be used in a similar fashion, as it represents the balance of the five elements. A symbol of the goddess, as found in many European archeological sites and often used by modern Wiccans, could be chosen to show the healing and regenerative powers of the earth. This symbol may be appropriate if the patient is overcoming a long physical or mental illness.
- 3). Draw the symbol onto the cloth. Before doing this, meditate on the symbol in a clean room or temple, identifying with it and feeling its healing properties. Draw the symbol on the cloth with paint or a marker. If you are using a green cloth, draw the symbol in blue; if you are using a blue cloth, draw the symbol in green.
- 4). Bring your group together to pray over the cloth. For a simple method, place the cloth on a central table and touch it all together while visualizing healing energy connected with the deity or power symbolized on the cloth. If you wish to have a more complex ceremony, construct a ritual following the guidelines of your own tradition and place the cloth on the alter. You could also bring the cloth to the houses of the members of your group and let them pray over it individually.
