    • 1). Listen closely for coughing or wheezing from your dog. A persistant cough is usualy the first and most common sign of kennel cough.

    • 2). Check to see if your dog has lost his appetite. If he is eating or drinking less, he may have kennel cough.

    • 3). Watch for signs of a cold in your dog including runny nose, sneezing, or watering eyes. Kennel cough can look like a common cold in many cases.

    • 4). Ask other pet owners if their dog is coughing or sick. Since kennel cough is contagious, it is important that they be aware that your dog is sick. Also, you may be able to find the cause of the cough.

    • 5). Visit your veterinarian if the cough does not get better. The vet can diagnose kennel cough or let you know if it is something else causing your dog to be ill.
