    Plasma Donation Requirements

    • National guidelines state that you must be over 17 years of age to donate plasma. You also must be at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. Certain medications, medical conditions, the presence of tattoos and body piercings and travel restrictions are also factors that will affect plasma donation eligibility.

    • The donation of plasma is a very safe procedure. According to BioLife Plasma Services, the body replaces removed plasma very quickly.

    Donation Limitations

    • A healthy individual can donate plasma twice in any seven day period. However, there must be one day between the day of donation and the next chosen day, according to BioLife Plasma Services.

    After Donating Blood

    • There are other limitations on those who have donated blood. You may not donate plasma up to eight weeks after you have donated blood, according to BioLife Plasma Services.

    Other Restrictions

    • According to donate-blood.com, if a center is not a specific commercial plasma donation center, the amount of time between plasma donations is different. At a center that is not specifically for plasma donation, you can donate plasma every 28 days.
