How to Properly Deep Condition Hair

    • 1). If you don't know already, deep conditioning is the most important step in maintaining healthy hair. There are several different types of conditioner and different ways to deep condition. I will discuss a few. A normal deep conditioner should be formulated to provide moisture to your hair. It should contain humectants and some proteins to help strengthen and soften the hair.

    • 2). Another way to deep condition your hair is to use a protein conditioner. These types are formulated to provide temporary deposits of protein onto the hair. This is beneficial to hair that is chemically treated. It strengthens the hair and combats breakage. Protein conditioners should always, always, always be followed by a moisturizing conditioner. So if you choose to deep condition with these types be sure to have a conditioner on hand that is hydrating. Protein conditioners may or may not be easy to find. It all depends on how good you are at recognizing them. They usually will have the word(s) "reconstructor" or "replenish" on the bottle or under the indications.

    • 3). There are several different ways to deep condition. The most popular way is to cover head with a plastic cap and sit under a hooded dryer for 20-30 minutes, or using a warm towel wrapped around your head. Some people allow the conditioner to sit on their head for hours with no heat. This is a beneficial technique as well. In some cases you may want to add other ingredients to your conditioner such as oils, or even honey. Honey acts as an excellent humectant, attracting moisture from the air and pulling into your hair. However you choose to complete this task, you should reap the benefits of conditioning. Choose which ever way works for you. But, whatever you do, Deep condition your hair, no matter what technique you decide to use.
