How to Celebrate Thanksgiving When Working

    • 1). Find out when you'll be working on Thanksgiving. You'll celebrate the holiday differently if you're working in the morning as opposed to if you're working 3 pm to 11 pm. Once you know when you'll be at work, you can better plan your day.

    • 2). Make a schedule for Thanksgiving Day and stick to it. This is especially important if you have more than one place to visit on the holiday. Doing this will allow you to get the most out of the time you spend with family and friends on Thanksgiving.

    • 3). Explain to your loved ones that you have to work. They probably won't rearrange the entire day to fit around your schedule, but they may be willing to make one or two changes. Perhaps they could hold off on dessert until you get home from work. This is a small gesture but it will give you a little bit of Thanksgiving dinner at home.

    • 4). Take some of Thanksgiving dinner with you to work. This isn't the same as sitting around the table with your family, but you can still enjoy the great food while you're stuck at work.

    • 5). Bring a radio to work if you're a football fan and if your work will allow it. Each of the three NFL games played on Thanksgiving will be broadcast on AM radio. This is a much better option than following the games on your computer.

    • 6). Get together with family and friends the Friday night after Thanksgiving. Most people have work off that entire day, so you can plan this get-together around your schedule. You don't have to have another Thanksgiving dinner. Have a few people over to your place or go out to a local restaurant or bar. This way, you'll get to see at least some of the people you missed on Thanksgiving Day.
