How to Set Up a Black History Panel Discussion
- 1). Choose a date and venue for the black history panel discussion. If it is for a television show you can decide whether or not to record it live or to schedule a time in the studio to record it.
- 2). Pick several topics for the panel members to discuss. A list of topics to be discussed allows people to decide if they are comfortable participating in the panel discussion.
- 3). Invite members of your community and other experts to participate in the panel. You can contact local churches or community activist groups as well as professors that have specialized in black history. These people have a vested interest in the topic and have studied the topics in depth. Attach a list of the topics to your invitation.
- 4). Select a moderator for the discussion. If it is going to take place on a television or radio show then the usual host is a good choice, but a live event will need a moderator as well. A good moderator should keep the discussion moving forward and include everyone in the questions.
- 5). Give everyone a list of the questions and the expected time for the discussion on the day of the discussion. This allows them to prepare responses to help the discussion to flow and prevents awkward silences.
