How to Connect Christmas Lights Around Your House
- 1). Draw a rough sketch of your house and indicate on it where different types of lights should be installed. For example, specify icicle lights along the eaves, net lights over bushes and the locations of any yard decorations.
- 2). Locate all of the outdoor electrical outlets around the home by walking around its exterior.
- 3). Unpack the lights and lay them out in the yard in the approximate locations where they will be installed. When you lay the lights out, decide which electrical outlet they are closest to and make sure that the pronged end of the light string faces the direction of the outlet.
- 4). Install the lights in their desired locations around the home and yard, connecting each light cord to the nearest one. You should only connect a maximum of three strands of lights, or 300 bulbs together, according to Lowe's.
- 5). Plug the pronged ends of the final light cords into the nearest electrical outlet. If the cords are not near an outlet, plug them into an outdoor-approved extension cord and plug the extension cord into the outlet.
