How to Reglaze a Colored Tub to Be White
- 1). Wash the surface of the bathtub thoroughly with any household cleaning solution, water and a washcloth. Dry the surface when you are done cleaning.
- 2). Wrap sandpaper around a hand-held sander and sand the entire surface of the tub. Stop when the surface is rough to the touch.
- 3). Cover the floor and walls around the tub with painter's plastic and drop cloths. Secure the plastic in place with masking tape.
- 4). Spread the bonding agent evenly on the surface of the tub with a paper towel. Let the bonding agent dry for five to 10 minutes.
- 5). Pour white epoxy primer into the paint chamber of your low-pressure spray gun. Put your paper face mask on before beginning to paint.
- 6). Coat the surface of the tub with the epoxy primer. Wait 30 minutes for the coat to dry and apply one more coat. Wait 30 minutes for the final coat to dry.
- 7). Dump the excess paint from the spray gun into the trash. Wash the chamber out with water and pour the white EP-acrylic top coat into the chamber.
- 8). Coat the surface of the tub with white top coat. Apply three more coats of top coat, waiting 30 minutes between each coat. Wait 30 minutes for all coats to dry after applying the final coat.
- 9). Wait for the tub dry for 24 to 48 hours.
