How is your resolution to get healthy and start a new fitness routine going? It doesnt take too long into the New Year to start experiencing the challenge of creating new habits. The old rationalizations start forming in your mind without you even realizing it. Breaking your commitment to eating well and exercising regularly may have already begun. Realize this is normal. The key thing is to keep getting back on that horse immediately after a slip up. Start a mini-recommitment to being that much better this time. Old habits die hard, so stick with it until they do. You wont regret it.

Are you starting to notice articles and pieces in the news talking about how some people just have a harder time losing weight? Are you one of those people who genetics make it next to impossible to lose weight? Are some people just born with it? They dont have to eat right or work out, theyre just lucky?

You might be able to have that point of view if youve been working out smart and consistently along with eating well for over a year with little to no results to show for it. But that is rarely the case. The truth, which you know in your heart of hearts, is that some bad habits youve had have caused you to slowly put weight on over the years. Sure some people have better genetics, but fit people are fit because they live a healthy lifestyle. No one can indulge and not have it catch up to them. Dont believe that some people have it easy and the odds are against you. Dont allow yourself to talk yourself into defeat by rationalizing you cant do it, that you were born to be overweight. Its time to put up, or shut up. Dont give in, you can do it.

Have you already cheated on the nutritional component of your fitness plan? Dont worry, it happens. Just dont throw in the towel because you had a cheat meal or a couple of chocolate bars. Okay, so admit that changing your eating patterns isnt easy. But you shouldnt be starving yourself, just making better choices. Take each temptation as it comes. Go for the apple instead of the bag of chips. Order a side salad instead of fries. Skip the greasy takeout and make something tasty and healthy at home. Lastly, when it comes to eating, try to concentrate on how you feel after a healthy meal. Youre not bloated, or tired. Youll comfortably full yet still full of energy. No more sluggishness, just recharged! Now choose foods that make you feel great, not just when youre eating them, but after as well.

Being inactive and eating poorly can have addictive-like qualities. You yearn to just lie on the couch, watch the boob-tube and eat a bag of chips. You try to tell yourself for a myriad of reasons that you should be doing just that thing. But if you fight those short-lived temptations and make it to the gym, or make a good meal you get one step closer to that deep level of self-esteem that comes with not being embarrassed about how you look. That self-esteem will come and your need to get and keep it will banish the regular desires you now have to be bad to yourself. So stick to your fitness plan. Make adjustments every 3 months if the results arent coming quick enough. Youll get there!

Old habits do die hard. But in retrospect, it wont seem all that difficult. In truth, it wont take all that long. Just two months or so and you will really have begun to ingrain those new healthy habits. So stick with the fitness routine and eating right. A year from now youll be so very glad you did!
