How to Remove Stains From Baby Quilts
- 1). Spread baking soda and water paste over acidic stains on a washable fabric, then rinse with warm water. If the stain is on fabric that cannot get wet, try holding the stain over a bowl of ammonia to neutralize it.
- 2). Remove grease or oil stains, including baby oil, diaper ointment, sap from trees, and cream and butter stains, by blotting and then applying an oxygen-based prelaundry treatment. Wash in warm water with oxygen bleach (otherwise known as sodium percarbonate).
- 3). Remove grease stains from fabrics that cannot be washed by blotting with a paper towel, then with a spot stain remover.
- 4). Spray ink stains with hairspray that contains alcohol, then blot it with a paper towel. Water-based marker and ink stains should come out in the regular laundry wash cycle.
- 5). Wash protein stains in cold water with salt at a ratio of 1 tsp. of salt to 1 pint of water. Presoak in oxygen bleach and wash with granulated detergent if the stain is still apparent.
