The buzz in the world of marketing is currently social media.
Everyone is talking about it, offering to help you with it, and everyone knows that social media is vital to the success of their business.
This doesn't mean that everyone is using this media correctly.
Here you are going to learn the number one secret to a successful social media marketing campaign.
If you think the goal of social media is to sell to your customers, you are wrong.
Yes, wrong.
When you are thinking about using social media to help grow your business the last thing you need to focus on is selling.
Social media isn't about selling.
Forget about the incredible product or service you have for just a moment.
Your primary focus is your customer.
More importantly, it is building a positive and strong relationship with that customer.
Media does something that companies used to have pay a fortune for.
It lets you get to know your market.
Media allows you to understand your target audience, figure out who they are, why they are using your product and service and how it can be improved.
For example, if you are using Facebook as part of your marketing campaign and all you are doing is posting sales and promotions on your FB page you are using social media the wrong way.
What is worse, you may be pushing those customers/fans away.
No one joins Facebook to be sold to.
They join FB to connect with people (friends, family, favorite actors, musicians, etc) They join to have a connection...
a relationship.
If you are a restaurant you can use your Facebook page to talk to your customers about what they like about the menu, what they would like to see changed or different recipe exchanges.
You can even offer them tips on how to recreate some of your food at home.
You are giving them something for being your customer.
You are interacting with them in way that was not possible before.
Don't think about selling, but pay attention to what they are saying so that you can make the needed changes that will enhance their customer experience.
Most companies and advertising professionals try to tell you that you need to sell to your target audience.
Yes that works, if you run an ad offering 30% off a product or service you have you will attract a number of new customers while you run that promotion.
What happens afterwards though? If you don't make a connection, build a relationship you aren't going to see the majority of those people again.
Use social media to build a relationship with your customer and enjoy long lasting customer loyalty.
