1. O'Connell's Pub

After more than 45 years in business, the owners of O'Connell's have proven they know how to keep customers happy. The pub is often lauded for having the best burgers in town, but the crowds also line up out the door on Fridays for fish and chips. O'Connell's doesn't have Irish music, but for true Irish pub atmosphere, it can't be beat.

2. John D. McGurks

McGurks is the place to go if you want to hear authentic Irish music. The owners bring in musicians from Ireland to play every night of the week. On weekends, especially if the weather's good, McGurks' large patio area will be packed with a good percentage of the city's Irish population. The Irish and non-Irish also pack McGurks for its full Irish menu featuring favorites like Guinness Stew and Bangers and Mash. If you're a Guinness fan, few places offer a better "pour."

3. The Dubliner

The Dubliner is one of the newest Irish restaurants in St. Louis, but it is already making a name for itself with a menu featuring fresh, locally grown produce and locally supplied meat. Located on trendy Washington Avenue in downtown St. Louis, the Dubliner is also the "hip" Irish place in town. The place has a spacious loft feel - which is terrific if you're looking for an alternative to the traditional cramped and smokey Irish bar. There's live music on weekends, and always great Irish food, including a unique but delicious Sunday brunch.

4. Seamus McDaniels

Seamus McDaniels is located in the heart of Dogtown, St. Louis' beloved Irish neighborhood. The building has been an Irish pub since 1907, making it a favorite with locals and out-of-town guests alike. Seamus McDaniels has a small traditional Irish bar area, complete with a few cozy booths, but the rest of the bar is designed to fit in plenty of tables. That means the decor and atmosphere are fairly basic, but that there's plenty of room to seat the masses that come for Seamus' famous burgers. Seamus also has a huge outdoor patio.

5. Pat's Bar & Grill

Pat's is another St. Louis restaurant with a long history. It opened in Dogtown in 1942 and has been a popular neighborhood hangout ever since. You'll find soups, salads and chili on the menu, but the real reason to go to Pat's is for its fried chicken. The 1/2 fried chicken with fries and coleslaw goes perfectly with a cold beer.

6. O'Malley's Irish Pub

O'Malley's is the place to go for a night of drinking and fun with friends. The pub, located along Antique Row on Cherokee Street, is casual and very welcoming. It's easy to see why regulars keep coming back. There's live Irish music (usually on Wednesdays), and you'll find all your favorite Irish beers and whiskeys. O'Malley's menu consists mostly of traditional pub food, but there are a couple of Irish dishes, like Sheperd's Pie and Corned Beef and Cabbage.

7. Kilkenny's Pub

Kilkenny's is a bit of Ireland in the heart of Clayton. It's a good choice when you want a quick lunch or are looking for a place to spend happy hour or watch the game with friends. 9. Tigin Irish Pub

Tigin is a chain restaurant, but it has still got the feel of a nice Irish pub, due in large part because of its location on historic Washington Avenue. Bartenders pride themselves on pouring a great Guinness or they'll happily serve you a hot Irish coffee on a cold day. Tigin also has a great selection of traditional Irish food. There's fish & chips, bangers & mash, boxties and an all-day Irish breakfast complete with black pudding.

10. Helen Fitzgerald's

Helen Fitzgerald's is really an American sports bar and restaurant with a bit of Irish flavor, but there are still many reasons to go. It has one of the best happy hours in St. Louis with a free appetizer buffet, weekdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. It's also a great sports bar with walls of flat screen HD tv's to watch the game. If you're wanting something that reminds you of the Emerald Isle, try the Irish Stew or a shot of Jameson.
