Wounded Veterans & the Job Security Act
- Specifically, the act protects employees who miss work because of an injury they received while in the service. They have the right to retain their job and are entitled to the same rights they would have received if they had remained employed with the company.
- The act does contain exceptions. If a veteran tells his employer he doesn't intend to return to work, the protections are eliminated. In addition, employers are not required to retain a veteran if circumstances have changed that make it impossible for the employee to work for the company. The burden of proof is on the employer.
- The bill is sponsored by Congressman LLoyd Doggett, D-Texas, who said he didn't want veterans to decide "between getting well and getting paid." The legislation amends the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.
