How to Remove Fertilizer Spots From Bronze
- 1). Brush the bronze with a soft bristle brush and acetone to remove any lacquer finish that may be present on the bronze. Rinse the work thoroughly with warm water then dry completely. Often bronze work is coated with a lacquer finish to help protect and preserve the metal. Tarnish spots from fertilizer will eat through the lacquer finish.
- 2). Mix a small, even amount of vinegar with baking soda in a bowl. Wait until the mixture bubbles then stir it until it forms a paste.
- 3). Apply the paste to the tarnish spots on the bronze work. Allow the paste to sit and penetrate the spots for about a half hour.
- 4). Rub the paste in a circular motion using a soft bristle brush or cloth. Wipe the paste off to check your progress. Ensure that you work gently because bronze is a soft metal and is easily scratched.
- 5). Reapply paste as needed until no tarnish spots are evident. Rinse the work with warm water and dry thoroughly.
