Salary of a Staffing Consultant
- Staffing consultants work in a sales/advisory position for staffing and recruitment companies such as Randstad or AppleOne. Staffing consultants approach companies and organizations, determine their needs and show how their employer can help fill that need. Staffing consultants also recruit qualified candidates and set up any training or counseling programs that will get them prepared to meet with clients as top-notch potential hires.
- Staffing consultants receive either a salary with smaller bonuses or commission, or base salaries with the majority of income coming from commission or bonuses. For those companies that pay primarily by salary, the average annual salary for a staffing consultant in December 2010 was $66,000, according to Simply Hired, a job database. These employees may receive standard corporate benefits such as health, paid sick and vacation days and a 401K.
- Other companies pay their staffing consultants a base salary plus commission and bonuses. In a December 2010 job posting for a staffing consultant, AppleOne offered candidates an annual base salary between $30,000 and $35,000, plus unlimited bonus and commissions opportunities. While AppleOne and many of its peers offer basic benefits, not every company offers its sales team paid benefits.
- Staffing consultants are expected to have an associate degree or bachelor's degree. Yet education is not as vital as experience in sales and customer service. Companies such as Randstad and AppleOne like to see a record of performance that shows a candidate knows how to find, attract, close and maintain clients. In fact, AppleOne requests that candidates have a minimum of two years of successful sales or related experience.
