Basic Motorcycle Training
- Basic motorcycle training consists of an introductory class designed to teach new riders motorcycle riding skills. In some countries, such as the United Kingdom, a basic motorcycle training class is a requirement of a motorcycle permit.
- The classroom portion of basic motorcycle training teaches riding theory and preventative skills such as scanning. Riders are educated in conditions such as riding in the rain.
- Maneuvers taught in basic motorcycle training include motorcycle starting, control, emergency stops, sharp turns and slaloming between cones.
- In some states such as California and Florida, the Basic Rider Course gives riders a waiver for the DMV riding test. In the United Kingdom, the Compulsory Bike Training is required before riders are allowed on the road.
- Riders can continue their training with one-on-one rider tuition or an Advanced Rider Course. The Motorcycle Safety Federation also offers specialized training for scooters and dirt bike riders.
