    Prerequisites

    • The Buchanan County Technology and Career Center LPN program admits both high school students and adults. High school students receive preference for admission and must enroll so that they will be graduating seniors at the end of the program. If space remains after all qualified high school students enroll, the school admits adults who have a high school diploma or GED. Preference is given to Buchanan County residents first and then to Virginia residents. Out-of-state candidates can receive admission if spots remain after all qualified Virginia residents enroll.

    Health Requirements

    • Because the LPN program at the Buchanan County Technology and Career Center involves a clinical component working with actual patients, participants must be in good health and free of communicable diseases. To verify this, all candidates must undergo a physical examination. A dental examination is also mandatory, and students who have any needed dental work must receive it prior to admission. Prospective students must also sign a pledge that they will not use illegal drugs while in the program and may be asked to take a drug test.

    Other Requirements

    • All prospective students for the LPN program at Buchanan County Technology and Career Center must undergo a criminal background check. Anyone found to have a history of felony or misdemeanor convictions may be ineligible to enroll in the program, depending on the nature of the crimes. The center gives all prospective students an admission test that measures basic skills in reading and math. Only those who pass the exam can gain admission to the program.

    Application

    • Prospective students for the LPN program in Grundy must complete an application, which is available from the Buchanan County Technology and Career Center's website. All applicants must include two letters of recommendation along with the form. Adult applicants must also forward their high school transcripts or proof of their GEDs to the school. After receiving the completed applications, the admissions department at the center sets up an interview with each prospective student. The interview is mandatory; anyone who does not show up is ineligible for admission to the program.
