    • 1). Pay off any outstanding loan on the car so that you can get the car title. If you have already paid off the car loan but can't find your car title, download and complete form MV1 from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation website for a replacement title. As of December 2010, the fee is $20. Mail the form to the address listed or take it to your local DMV service center, which can be found on the Wisconsin Department of Transportation website.

    • 2). List your vehicle for sale in the local paper or online on sites such as Auto Trader, Craigslist and Cars.com. Prices to post an ad vary. In your ad, give the make, model and year of the vehicle as well as the mileage and condition. If there are any problems, disclose them. Provide a phone number or email address for potential buyers to contact you.

    • 3). Show your car to any potential buyers that contact you with interest.

    • 4). Transfer the vehicle's ownership by signing the title over to the buyer, once you sell the vehicle. All listed owners on the title must sign it.

    • 5). Remove your license plates from the vehicle. You can transfer the plates to another vehicle at your local DMV service center.
