Children are actually innocent it is the way they are brought up that determines how they are going to become eventually, in life. And quite correctly, as research shows, it is the home environment that affects a kid the most rather than their peers being a part of their overall development.

Respect Comes First: Most of the kids and their generation seem to be growing up into believing that the rebellious behavior is best when it comes to following parents advice or even respecting them. Given them a piece of history the best known rebels of the world were rebels, not without a cause! To become a rebel without a mission or vision and behave uncharacteristically of their age is indeed unworthy of them as a generation growing up. Family values have to be inculcated in them by yourself being the pioneer of change (to see the change). It is often that we, as elders might have some behavioral impact on our kids; the impact is best if it is a step in the positive direction.

Correct Yourself First: It is what your children want to become is what matters the most and not what you want them to be! You may want them to be a Nobel laureate but little did you know that your child had the potential to become the worlds top athlete and you killed him/her by neglecting/abusing their talent. This is indeed dangerous. Seldom are parents so cruel/ignorant of their childrens aspirations but this too happens. One thing that is important to make your kids as a part of the learning curve is to correct yourself first. If you have any bad habits, you cannot blame your child for growing a similar habit it is you, who has to be the agent of change to see the change in your kids.

Teaching the Value of Money: Life is not all glitzy and measured with money. Some affluent kids do get a lot of money and therefore are at ease with spending it as they want to. They may set a wrong example to kids with limited resources but with strong family values, it can easily be countered. Teenage years are the most difficult years of the kids lives. This is also the period when they need to taught the importance of money the value of it. With most of us, still battling the ghost of recession, it is time to rectify your mistakes and tell your kids not to make the same financial mistakes that you might have made!

Independence but Not without Regulations: It is a great idea to let your kids to grow up in an independent environment where he/she is free to take up anything as a career that they like and take their own decision. But with children, the problem of rebellion always catches up make sure that understand the importance of independence and learn that independence is not complete without some rules and regulations.
