How to Cut Hard Maple

    • 1). Lay a hard maple board on a flat work surface and use a tape measure to determine where you must cut it depending on the project you are building. Draw all necessary cut lines clearly on the wood using a pencil.

    • 2). Install a 10-inch carbide-tipped cutting blade into a 3 horsepower or greater table saw using the manufacturer's instructions for proper installation methods. The best blade for cutting hard maple has a 30-degree angle to the teeth, but you can also use a blade with teeth angled at 20 degrees.

    • 3). Put on safety glasses, a dust mask and work gloves before starting the saw to protect yourself from flying wood chips and sawdust particles.

    • 4). Turn the table saw on and position the pencil line on the hard maple board directly in front of the saw blade. Place one hand on either side of the board, keeping them well away from the blade.

    • 5). Push the maple board slowly but steadily toward the saw blade until it begins to cut through. Watch the board carefully and if slight brown spots develop, called scorching, increase how fast you push the board through. Continue this process until you cut all the way through the maple board.

    • 6). Turn off the saw and remove your safety gear.
