The proper nutrition is essential when trying to gain muscle and weight.
You can work out at the gym 5 hours a day everyday, but without the proper nutrition you are just wasting your time.
When trying to gain weight you need to consume an extra 500 calories per day.
At this rate you will gain 1 pound a week.
That being said you need to eat good foods that will turn into muscle not fat.
Let's look at the three categories of food that you need to consume: Carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.
Carbohydrates: This is perhaps the most important, and often the most overlooked aspect of a proper diet.
Your diet should consists of about 50% carbs.
It is important to know which foods contain good carbs and bad carbs.
Whole grain foods are the best type of carbs you can ingest.
Some great foods that contain a lot of good carbs are: Whole grain bread, brown rice, sweet potatoes (yams), and porridge (grits).
Fruits and vegetables are also great sources of carbohydrates.
By consuming these healthy carbohydrates you will have much more energy in the gym, and throughout the day.
Proteins: Around 30% of your diet should consist of proteins.
You should consume 1-1.
5g of protein per pound of body weight each day.
So a 150 pound person should get at least 150g of protein per day.
They are the easiest type of food to consume due to the number of ways you can do such.
You can either get protein from foods, or from supplements.
There are many different types of protein supplements on the market today that are very convenient and a great addition to your diet.
Whey protein is arguably the easiest to be absorbed by your body.
However, it is also very important to get protein from real foods as well.
The best proteins can be found in lean meats, nuts, and seafood.
A mix between protein supplements and lean foods is the best way to get your daily protein.
Fats: 15-20% of your diet should consist of fats.
No, I'm not saying go out and eat greasy burgers, and potato chips.
The fat you need to consume should come from eggs, nuts, and fish.
These fats are healthy for you and good for your brain.
