Why You DON"T Want to Lose 20 Pounds This Week

103 1
I get it.
Lugging around all that extra belly fat is getting old.
You don't like how you look.
You're just tired of it all.
I was there too.
It's admirable that you want to change that.
But losing it all at once is a terrible idea.
Not only does it pose numerous health risks, there are cosmetic risks too.
You actually might end up with more fat than you started with! Weight Loss And Fat Loss Doctors say it is possible to lose up to 20 pounds in a week.
Unfortunately, only about 1-2 of those 20 pounds are fat.
The majority of it is water, and the rest is muscle.
You can healthily lose water weight by drinking more water.
Each pound of muscle burns up to 50 calories a day.
You're going to gain that water weight back if you don't want to stay dehydrated, and you'll gain the muscle back if you work out regularly, so why try to get rid of it in the first place? A smarter plan would be just to try to lose 1-2 pounds per week, and have 100% of that weight loss be fat loss.
Post Pregnancy If you have quite a few pregnancy pounds to get rid of, please don't try to lose them as fast as possible.
For one, cutting calories drastically can cause malnutrition which means you won't have enough nutrients in your breast milk.
Two, lactating actually causes you to burn up to 500 calories a day.
That's a free pound of fat gone every week! Yo Yo Losing lots of weight quickly is frequently the beginning phase of yo yo dieting.
A yo yo dieter loses a lot of weight (muscle and water) on a new diet.
If this new diet has the person on a ridiculously low number of calories, the dieter can't maintain the diet for long.
After giving up, they return to their normal weight, often with extra fat to replace the lost muscle and water.
Gallstones Believe it or not, rapid weight loss can cause gallstones or activate latent gallstones.
A painful price for a few pounds.
Extra Skin People who are obese and lose a lot of weight quickly often end up with unsightly folds of skin hanging off their body.
Losing weight at a rate of 1-2 pounds per week can prevent or at least reduce the chance of extra skin folds that you can only get rid of with expensive surgery.
Malnutrition If you're on an extremely low calorie diet, your body may not be receiving all the nutrients it needs.
The recommended minimum calorie intake for women is 1200 calories, and for men it's 1800 calories.
Metabolism Another disadvantage to drastically cutting calories is that it causes your metabolism to slow down a LOT.
When it slows down, you will not be able to continue to losing weight unless you cut calories further or you begin exercising a lot.
