Fact or Fiction?
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
"That is a beautiful, powerful, unique statement, but is it true?Are these opening chapters of the Bible myths and legends, or are they the record of actual events and real people? Do we have here an authentic, authoritative, accurate account of how life began, or are these words no more than picturesque poetry? If the first verse of the Bible is a lie, then how reliable and trustworthy is the rest? Answers to these questions colour and influence almost everything else.
A wrong understanding or misleading inadequate teaching can cause a man to believe that he is a mere accident - a mistake - or unwanted - 'so there is little point of my being here'.
Is man only a biological orphan in the on-going evolutionary process, or do I have a loving heavenly Father, and a caring compassionate Saviour, whose name is Jesus Christ? It is not possible to combine a lengthy struggle for millions of years with death a common occurrence, and believe the Bible.
Death, according to Genesis, arrived on the scene only after Adam sinned.
Moving into the New Testament we are taught that just as sin and death entered the world through that one man, the remedy also came through one Man - that very special Man, Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Jesus had no problem with the book of Genesis.
When replying to questions about marriage, Jesus quotes from Genesis Chapters 1 and 2.
This is not a side issue.
It is central.
There is an incontrovertible case for upholding the authority of the Bible from the very first verse.
Is Genesis fact or fiction?It cannot be both, and who can darebuild his life upon that which is not true? When the storms come, and they do come more frequently and regularly than we may have expected and anticipated, it is good to have a firm sound reliable rock-like foundation.
Sand is no use.
What is built upon sand will collapse and be quickly washed away.
