    • 1). Finish all wood pieces except the plywood by brushing on at least two coats of paint. Dry thoroughly between coats.

    • 2). Attach leg posts to the sideboards 4 inches up from the bottom. Use three wood screws top, center and bottom to attach the four leg posts to the inside ends of the sideboards. Attach the end boards to the leg posts with three wood screws. Countersink each wood screw.

    • 3). Measure where you want the plywood base to sit in your frame and mark evenly around inside of the frame. Use the handsaw to notch a 1½-inch square at each corner of the ¾-inch plywood so that it fits snuggly against the four legs. Slide plywood into the frame. Attach plywood with wood screws all around the four sides. Attach L brackets above the plywood at the four corners for extra strength.

    • 4). Staple foam sheet to the headboard section. Staple the fabric 1½ inch up on the bottom two corners of the board at the backside. Turn the raw edges of the fabric under before stapling. Adjust the fullness and stretch over the top. Staple fabric to top, bottom and both sides securely. Miter the four corners.

    • 5). Attach the headboard to the wall with four molly screws at each corner of the headboard. Slide the bed frame under the headboard and add a twin mattress. The project is complete.
