    • 1). Take the key out of the ignition switch.

    • 2). Raise the mower deck all the way by pulling up one of the deck lift handles that are located on either side of the mower deck and install the lanyard pin in the highest cutting positions so that the mower deck does not fall while blades are being changed.

    • 3). Keep the cutting blades from rotating by wedging a block of wood between the blade and the frame of the mower. A tool known as a Blade Buddy can also be used to secure the blades.

    • 4). Place a 5/8-inch box wrench onto the blade attaching bolt and remove it by turning the bolt counterclockwise. Remove the lock washer and flat washer from the spindle shaft. Remove the blade. Repeat the procedure for all blades on the mower deck.

    • 5). Place a new or sharpened blade onto the spindle shaft making sure the curved part of the blade is facing upward. Install the flat washer on the spindle shaft. Install the lock washer on the spindle shaft. Thread the blade attaching bolt into the spindle shaft clockwise. Reposition the wooden block between the blade and the block to prevent the blade from rotating while the blade attaching bolt is being tightened. Repeat the procedure for all other blades on the mower deck area

    • 6). Attach a 5/8-inch socket on a 1/2-inch drive torque wrench. Finish tightening all blade attaching bolts on the mower deck with the torque wrench while wedging the blade with a wood block to prevent it from moving. Torque each attaching bolt to 75 foot-pounds.
