    • 1). Go to the Florida Board of Massage Therapy and download the list of the Approved Board of Massage Therapy Schools (see Resources). Open or save the document to your computer. Locate the school that is closest to you and use the information listed to contact them in person, by phone or by email address.

    • 2). Enroll and complete the course of study at the school of your choice. You are also required to complete a two-hour course on the prevention of medical errors.

    • 3). Apply for and pass one of the certification exams after successful completion of the appropriate courses and training programs. There are four examinations that you can choose from: The National Certification Examination in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB), the National Certification Examination in Therapeutic Massage (NCETM), the National Exam for State Licensure (NESL) as administered by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, or the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx) administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (see Resources). Testing for the licensing and certification exams are computer-based and done at test centers located around the State.

    • 4). Download and save the Application for Licensure with Instructions from the Florida Board of Massage Therapy (see Resources). Print the application, read the instructions and fill it out completely. Make a copy of the application for yourself. Obtain a cashier's check or money order made payable to the Department of Health and send it along with the original copy of the application to:

      Department of Health

      Payment Management

      P.O. Box 6330

      Tallahassee, FL 32314

    • 5). Request the official transcripts from the massage therapy school, as well as proof of the two-hour Medical Errors course if it is not included in the transcript. In addition, you will need to provide proof that you took and passed the exam, license verification from any state in which you currently hold or have held a regulated professional massage license, a color two x two photo, name-change documentation and military documentation. Either send it yourself or have the school send this information to:
