February 2012 has many events to choose from, including country concerts at the Tacoma Dome, great musicals and plays in Seattle, and much more. Since all of these events are close to Valentine's Day, you could even consider surprising your sweetie with concert or play tickets!

1. Styx


Styx is a legendary rock band, mostly famous from their string of hits from the 1970s and 80s. Hits like “Mr. Roboto” and “Come Sail Away” are popular radio songs known by many.

2. TAO: The Way of the Drum


Taiko drumming originated in Japan—it’s naturally theatrical as musicians play drums ranging in size from small to gigantic with large drumsticks and expansive arm movements. TAO brings together musicians from around the world, trained in Japan, into one incredibly energetic show.

When: February 3, 8 p.m.

3. Shen Yun


Shen Yun is a showcase of traditional Chinese performance and music mixed with Western influences and modern technology to bring the show to life. Each year, a new show is put together in New York. An international cast of dancers, singers and musicians come from backgrounds ranging from competition winners to members of philharmonic orchestras. The show’s staging is lush and beautiful, from the amazing costumes to the backdrops.

4. Brad Paisley and Scotty McCreery


This country concert pairs up two heavy hitters—established star Brad Paisley and American Idol 2011 winner Scotty McCreery.

5. An Evening with Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert


Whether you’re a fan of either of these two because they’re world-renowned chefs, or whether you love “No Reservations” with Anthony Bourdain on the Travel Channel, this event is sure to please. These two chefs are good friends and often appear together as judges on Top Chef, and shows such as Martha Stewart. Here, you will hear them banter and discuss the restaurant business, food, travel, and general life philosophy. The most expensive tickets include a reception after the show with Bourdain and Ripert and refreshments.

6. Cupid's Undie Run


No plans for Valentine's weekend 2012? Come on out, strip down to your skivvies, and run around Fremont for a great cause. This is a national, six-city event and every dollar raised goes directly to the Children's Tumor Foundation to benefit children suffering from Nuerofibromatosis. The first 120 people to register will receive a free pint of hefeweisen courtesy of Widmer Brewery. Enjoy happy hour food and drink specials all day, raffles, and plenty of fun.

7. The Second City: Laugh Out Loud Tour


Second City is a comedy club and school located in Chicago, Toronto, and LA that has taught some of the best and brightest in the laugh industry—Jim Belushi, Bill Murray, and Tina Fey are all alums. Saturday Night Live tends to have a close relationship with the school. This tour shows off an array of talent, and you never know if you’ll see the next great comic on stage!

8. Mat Kearney


Oregon native Mat Kearney debuted with “Nothing Left to Lose” in 2006 and has since released two other studio albums: “City of Black & White” in 2009 and “Young Love” in 2011. He is most known for singles such as “Nothing Left to Lose” and “Undeniable,” and more recent singles in 2011 include “Ships in the Night.” His sound is almost reminiscent of Coldplay and his mellow voice lends well to his cool, laid-back musical style.

9. Seattle Rock Orchestra Performs Muse


The Seattle Rock Orchestra is a delightful marriage of the instruments of classical music mixed with the awesome songs of rock music. Since their inception in 2008, the orchestra has grown from a 13-piece to a 50-piece ensemble. February 2012 brings the orchestra performing the songs of Muse, drawing from all of Muse’s studio albums and playing all the best of the band’s hits, including “Knights of Cydonia,” “Take a Bow,” and more.

10. Die Antwoord


Die Antwoord are a rap-rave crew out of South Africa representing a style they call Zef. The music is often catchy and the personalities of Ninja and Yo-Landi are awesomely bizarre. If you haven’t heard of Die Antwoord, search the Internet and you are sure to find out what this crew is all about as most of their success has come from a strong online presence.
