Ever since Apple launched their iPhone, Nokia have been on something of the back foot.
Their touch screen interface was months behind, and the simplicity with which Apple implemented Apps, made Nokia owners somewhat envious.
But Nokia phones had a lot of strengths.
The camera resolution was and still is, far higher on the high end Nokia devices than on the iPhone, and Nokia had a huge user base, familiar with the Symbian operating system that controls the Nokia range of phones.
Now with the launch of the N97, Nokia have certainly caught up with other manufacturers, and now have one of the most heavily specified mobile phones available.
So what do you get on this Flagship device? Firstly there is the 3.
5 inch TFT touch screen that lets you operate the phone.
There is a full keyboard that sits below the screen and slides neatly and solidly out when you need to use it.
Then there is the 5 megapixel camera with video recording and LED flash.
You can record pictures, video or music onto the huge 32GB storage memory, a storage capacity that matches the highest specification iPhone.
The GPS receiver and compass built in which with Nokia Maps, Google Maps, or another third party application will mean you should never be lost again.
And then there is the customizable home screen.
Change the way it looks and add a variety of widgets to make the N97 look and operate as you need it to.
It is this functionality that makes the N97 a more all round useful device than the iPhone, but still probably not enough to make die hard Apple users defect to Nokia.
