How to Clean Up a Sewer Spill Under the House
- 1). Place stakes in the ground around the perimeter of the home and wrap warning tape around them to ward off visitors or onlookers.
- 2). Put on goggles, gloves and a respirator to protect against exposure to harmful materials.
- 3). Place a pump hose under the house and begin pumping out the sewage into an appropriate disposal tank. Move the pump hose as needed to remove all the liquid.
- 4). Remove the top layer of dirt from under the house with rakes and shovels. Begin in the outer areas and then move inward until all the contamination is removed. Place the dirt in biohazard bags for proper disposal.
- 5). Mix one part bleach and eight parts water in a power washer. Set the sprayer to a low psi. Saturate the area under the house with the bleach water and allow it to dry before repeating the irrigation process.
