Mental Preparation For Motorcycle Riding

There's nothing like riding out on the open road on a motorcycle. It is a whole new view when one is not surrounded by a car, being one with all they see. It is important to be mentally prepared for riding. More and more people are choosing to ride, so there are new riders and veteran riders. No matter new or veteran every rider must be mentally prepared to take off down the road.
Safe riding takes undivided attention. If a rider is thinking about how they are going to build a dog run in the back yard as they take off in traffic, they will not have the mental focus it takes to arrive safely. So before heading out on public roads clearing the mind of distractions is a good idea. Making sure to use the bathroom before taking off is good. It may be surprising how distracting having to go can be when trying to ride cross legged.
Wearing a motorcycle jacket is peace of mind when on the road. A motorcycle jacket provides protection from rocks and other flying debris as well as serious skin abrasions. No rider likes to think about being thrown from their bike, or having to lay their bike down. If they are wearing a motorcycle jacket, it will be a protective layer between their skin and the asphalt. This is peace of mind which also puts the mind at ease and where it gets to be while riding.
Nothing gets the mind less right for riding than alcohol and drugs. It takes balance to ride a motorcycle, and just one beer can mess that up. Statistics from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation show that 50 percent of all people killed on motorcycles had alcohol in their blood. The thing is of that 50 percent two thirds had had only one or two drinks before their accidents. Riding alcohol free is riding safe.
Another distraction is riding with anger at drivers on the road. This is one of the fastest ways to cloud judgment. I rider has to be able to make split second decisions to be safe in traffic. Whether right or wrong a rider has to remain calm and collected in every situation. Even if the rider has the right of way, the person in the car next to them has their life in his or her hands. It does not work to have road rage against someone who could cause harm just by turning the steering wheel. The best thing to do is get out of the situation as soon as possible, and get as far away from the vehicle as possible.
Riding is an amazing experience. It is the time to have a clear and focused mind, a time to let go of all the happenings of the day to be one with your motorcycle experiencing the road as only a rider can.
