Video: Baseball Speed Training Drills
Video Transcript
Hi, my name is AJ Tucker, certified personal trainer since 2005, cross fit level 1 instructor and founder of "I Choose Fit." Today, I'm going to show you speed training drills for baseball. Have you ever heard the term, life's not a sprint it's a marathon? Well in baseball, it's a sprint, okay. All you have to do is be able to run 90 feet or around the base to make home plate. So don't bother with any long distance or marathon training, 10 to 20 meters in your speed training drills. So whenever I speed train I'm working on my starting strength and I'm trying to figure out how to round the bases and to have the ability to look in the outfield to see what I need to do next. Another great drill to build speed for baseball is the broad jump. Now if you look at these mats, they're 4 X 6 and so I'm going to jump six feet each time. Then I'm going to turn around and jump in the opposite direction. You can deviate and vary this drill however you want. I'm just going to go back and forth but you can go all the way down in a straight line whenever you do this drill. The last thing you want to do to build speed for baseball is to mimic all of the movements. So one you can round the bases as fast as you can. You can shuffle from side to side and make it vary, make it random because sometimes you're going to shuffle a little bit and then steal the base. Sometimes you may shuffle and have to go back to first before you get thrown out. So if I go side to side and mimic all of these movements, that would help my speed drills. Again, this is AJ Tucker, and I just showed you speed training drills for baseball.
