5 Ways to Clear Home Clutter
Spring is here and it's time to re-organize your space.
Besides general cleaning and straightening up, you probably need to rid yourself of clutter that can create a dull and stagnant energy around you.
Popular TV shows like "Hoarders" reveal the horrid living state of people who turn an interest in "collecting" to an excuse for not moving forward in their lives.
Hoarding creates a lot of dysfunction and secrecy in your life.
Your living space can become an environment that isn't sanitary or pleasing to be in when clutter takes over.
Perhaps you've accumulated clutter because you have a busy schedule or you have a sentimental attachment to your things.
Whatever the reason, spring is the perfect time to get organized.
Get Rid of Old Clothes, Shoes and Handbags You can't keep these things forever.
If it has holes in it, no longer fits or you haven't worn an item in a year or more - it's time to let it go.
Do something good and give your gently worn items to Salvation Army, Goodwill or your church.
Have a garage sale or create your own store on the internet to sell items that are still new (with tags on them).
Throw Out Expired Medicines and Beauty Products Check the expiration dates on all aspirin bottles, cough syrup, cold medicine and the like.
Also old prescription medicines.
If there is anything that has expired or you no longer take it, time to get rid of it.
The same for shampoos, conditioners, bath gels, bath salts and lotions.
If the product has become crusty, soured or has expired, throw it out.
Make room for new products.
Clear Your Closets You've got a million and one shawls, jackets, hats, gloves, sports equipment, appliances that are broken, tote bags and kids' things stashed in every closet of your home.
If you're not wearing it or using it on a day-to-day basis, it's time to release it.
A family or child in need may put your items to better use.
Again you can always give to Salvation Army and Goodwill.
Regarding appliances, if they're old, rusty and not working, get rid of them.
Organize Your Home Office If you haven't already, get yourself a good file cabinet.
Organize your papers and label everything of importance.
When tax time comes around you want to have all of your expenses and receipts in order.
Recycle and/or shred any papers that you no longer need.
Teachers, attorneys, business owners, writers and others in paper accumulating professions can easily become disorganized if organization does not become a top priority.
The same goes for opening your mail and recycling the paper.
Don't let paperwork anxiety stop you from getting rid of a possible fire hazard.
Recycle Magazines Old magazines can be cute if you leave a few of your favorites on your living room coffee table.
But when you've collected hundreds over the years and can't find enough places to stash them, that's when it gets out of control.
Recycling the magazines help you keep the clutter down and help the environment.
You can also donate the magazines to schools, churches and libraries.
Clearing clutter in your home is something you should do throughout the year.
The clutter can make you feel stressed out and overwhelmed when you look at it.
You may be embarrassed to entertain guests when your clutter has become too much to handle.
Use the spring season to inspire you to get rid of the old and bring in the new.
