The wilderness of New York state provides for some excellent outdoor recreation, not the least of which is canoeing. Quiet lakes and secluded rivers provide entertainment for all skill levels, while nearby campgrounds can provide overnight accommodation, if necessary. Many of the state's lakes and rivers provide numerous boat launch locations as well, allowing patrons access to the water from nearly anywhere in the state. - Cranberry Lake spans an impressive 7,040 acres in New York's Adirondack Mountains. The third-largest lake within in the mountain range, Cranberry Lake also boasts 55 miles of beachfront and shoreline. Canoes can be put into the water from four different sites around Cranberry Lake: the Emporium Marina, the public boat launch on Columbian Road, the Cranberry Lake Public Campground and near the Pine Cone Restaurant. All access points are in the village of Cranberry Lake, New York. A total of 46 free campsites can be used by those who are kayaking or paddling a canoe around the lake.
