How to Install Romex Wiring in Wood Trusses
- 1). Lay the wiring over the trusses without protection if your attic is not permanently accessible. Run the cables near the truss edge and staple them to the top of a truss every 3 or 4 feet. Any cables that come within 6 feet of the attic access hole must be protected by a guard strip that is at least as high as the cable.
- 2). Install a 2" by 6" running board over the trusses if your attic is accessible by a permanent set of stairs. Nail a 2" by 4" on edge along each side of the running board to make guard strips. Position the running board as close to the outer edge of the trusses as possible.
- 3). Run the cables along the top of the running board and staple them down every three feet.
