How to Make Aboriginal Music Instruments for Kids
- 1). Apply three 4-in. pieces of masking tape lengthwise to secure the two cardboard tubes together to form one long tube. Add masking tape around the tubes at the center to reinforce the connection. Tape a piece of 3 x 5-inch cardboard around the center of the tubes for extra stability.
- 2). Prime the tube a solid color with the acrylic paint. Allow to dry for 20 minutes. Read some background material about Australia's first peoples to the children. Let them look at picture books and pick out symbols appropriate for this instrument with an understanding of what they mean.
- 3). Tuck the sharp edge of the mouthpiece end of the tube by folding the edge toward the inside.Children can blow or hum into the tube to reproduce sounds similar to those produced by a kazoo.
