How to Install a Reduced Pressure Backflow Preventer
Things You'll Need
Instructions
1Measure the size of pipe leading to your discharge tank or waste-water line. Purchase a reduced pressure backflow prevention device of the same circumference. Depending on the size of pipe, your device may be threaded or flanged.
2
Select a location for your RPBP. You want to tie it into the line as close to the waste-water source as possible -- as far from the discharge tank as feasible. For example, if the waste-water line is coming out of your house, put the device just outside the foundation.
3
Tie the device into the line by connecting the RPBP intake to the upstream pipe and the discharge-side down-line. If you connect it backward, the waste water will not discharge. If the device is threaded, use your pipe wrenches to twist the RPBP onto the line after you wrap the pipe with Teflon tape. If the RPBP is flanged, use your socket set and breaking bar to fasten the pipe to the RPBP. If the pipe is PVC, glue the RPBP into the line. Make sure the intake side of the RPBP is facing up-line and the discharge is facing down-line.
