How to Get a Job as a Math Adjunct at a Community College

    • 1). Develop your qualifications for the job. Most community colleges require that adjunct teachers have at least a master's degree in the program that they are applying to teach. If you have a bachelor's degree and strong work experience, you may also be considered.

    • 2). Research available positions at community colleges in your area. Many colleges will post job openings on their website. Sites like higheredjobs.com also focus on positions available at colleges; schools may use these types of sites to attract qualified candidates You can also call math departments to see if they are planning to hire a math adjunct.

    • 3). Contact the schools that you are interested in applying to by sending them a letter of intent and your resume. Update your resume to effectively describe what makes you a good candidate for this job.

    • 4). Follow up your resume with further contact with the school. Confirm that they received your information, and send a email or a note thanking them for taking the time to look through your qualifications.

    • 5). Interview with the school, if requested. Even though you will not be a full-time member of the staff, it is important to know if you will be a good fit. Take a tour, get to know some of the other professors and learn what exactly they will expect from you. Ideally, both sides will think it is a good fit and you will be given a job offer.
