Losing weight is one thing, but keeping the weight off requires a winning weight loss programs that gives you the proper nutrition as well as the guidance and support to continue your active travels towards your goal weight.
Obesity is becoming more and more common in this country.
All of us obese Americans see the mental aspect of losing weight harder than the physical aspect.
For instance, I am a guy who is obese but still likes to play football and disc golf.
It is not a chore for me to have to sweat playing sports or walk around a park all day.
It is easy to gear up for physical activity, but it is much harder to prepare my brain to deny myself certain foods.
Our foods are so unhealthy nowadays and they are surrounding us everywhere we go.
Fast food restaurants, sports bars, even our grocery stores do not have the healthiest of choices when it comes to ingredients.
Indeed the mental part of losing weight is the harder part for most of us.
For some of us however, obesity has grown to a point when even the simplest of activities like mowing the lawn would be a disaster.
Getting around the house or up some stairs is a chore in itself.
For these people the physical aspect of losing weight is much scarier.
They would love if they could just stick to a diet and watch the pounds melt away.
When it comes to the morbidly obese, there is a way out that takes away the physical aspect of losing weight and leaves only the mental endurance required to stick to a diet.
This way is known as bariatric surgery.
During these surgeries the digestive tract is altered in a way so that food does not stay as long, meaning less calories and nutrients get absorbed into the body.
There is also a significant decrease in the amount of food it takes for the patient to feel full.
With these two factors creating a highway towards weight loss, the patient need only concentrate on the road ahead by sticking to a diet that is very restrictive.
Certain foods are banned and patients must take supplements to balance their nutritional deficiencies.
As the pounds fall off light exercise is helpful.
The goal here is staying motivated by keeping the mind happy.
This is a big reason why support groups are set up for post-operative bariatric patients.
Learning about the rigorous diets and routines bariatric patients must go through is a good tool for the rest of us mildly obese Americans.
Thinking about the puree consistency bariatric patients must chew their food every time, or the foul tasting protein shakes and pills they must take, or the weakness they feel from being malnourished should help us to pass by that fast food restaurant or sugary grocery treat.
