aggressive approach towards recycling manifests itself in the numbers.
As of the end of June, Martin Door Manufacturing had recycled approximately 475,000 pounds of steel for the year to date. The company had also recycled 20,700 lbs of aluminum and 11,290 lbs of cooper in the same timeframe.

Don Christiansen, buildings and grounds manager, actively tracks the activity of any scrap metal and coordinates the pickup between MDM and the recycler. Martin schedules daily pickup of recycled steel, and regular pickups of aluminum and cooper as well.
Bins are placed strategically at different stations throughout the manufacturing facility to handle any metal scrap that can be put back into use.

The recycling process is so ingrained in the company, that in the area of windows, Supervisor Don McMillen has even found a use for the foam insulation cut out during the installation of windows.

McMillen said he uses approximately 80 percent of the foam cut out from the windows as packing material for Martin Door shipping.

He said he goes out of his way to try and find uses for anything that might otherwise be thrown into the garbage and shipped to the landfill.

Martin Door Materials Recycled Again and Again
Martin Garage Doors are made of recycled materials, and are easily recyclable.
Every single component of the door has a recycling element to it. For example:
approximately 33 percent of the substance that makes up Martin Door hardware comes from recycled material.

all metals used to manufacture a Martin Door, i.e., steel, copper or aluminum, are recyclable.

approximately 90 to 95 percent of the copper in Martin copper garage doors is made of recycled material.

a large percentage of the metal used in a steel Martin Garage Door is made of recycled material.

reground material is a key component in the polystyrene (EPS) used to insulate Martin Doors.

about 60 percent of the material in Martin's designer window or vista frames is recycled substance. More importantly the material left after the frame is made, is sent back to the manufacturer who grinds it up and sends it back as part of the ABS plastic used to design the window framing. In essence the material is used over and over and over again in the Martin Door process.

Martin garage door sections are made of recycled steel and copper. The aluminum in Martin aluminum doors is not made of recycled product, because of issues the supplier has in the purity of the product, but the door is easily recycled.
Even in packaging, recycled cardboard is a key component that is used to help protect every Martin Garage Door from being damaged.
