Same Old, Same Old

Once again, there were no changes made with the designers’ models as the winning designer, Korto, opted to stay with her model.

High Powered, Chic and Professional

Some of the funniest moments on this show are when the designers are trying to guess what their next challenge will be. Told by Heidi that they will be designing for a “high powered, glamorous, professional woman,” the designers bandied about names like Hillary Clinton, Nancy Grace and Sharon Osbourne.

It’s A Jungle Out There

The high-powered fashion plate turned out to be Brooke Shields – sort of.

The designers were tasked with creating a day-to-night look for Brooke’s character on the show, Lipstick Jungle. Brooke would serve as guest judge for this challenge as well.

Sketch, Pitch and Partners

The designers were told that they would have 30 minutes to sketch a design and then pitch it to Brooke, who would then pick six designers as team leaders who would then be partnered with the remaining six designers.

Staying Diplomatic

Brooke displayed some great diplomacy in handling the pitch sessions, from gently pointing out a design’s flaws (“she’s still got to go to work in this”) to trying not to shoot down a risky design concept (“it’s not a bad idea”).

The Pairs

Brooke picked Keith, Korto, Jerell, Kelli, Terri and Blayne as team leaders. Keith was paired with Kenley, Korto with Joe, Jerell with Stella, Kelli with Daniel, Terri with Suede and Blayne with Leanne.

Quite a Feather in Your Cap

Brooke revealed that the winning design would be worn by her on the second season of Lipstick Jungle, which means national exposure for the winning design team.

Family Ties

Kelli, the 27 year old from Ohio, remarked that her parents were MIA while she was growing up but that her grandmother was there to help her.

She noted that her grandmother was handicapped so hasn’t been able to really appreciate Kelli’s work but should Kelli win, all her grandmother would have to do is flip on the TV. Meanwhile Blayne, the 23 year old from Washington, revealed that he loves his family “but they’re crazy” and he gets his craziness from them.

Fabric Issues

Tensions run high early on for Terri and Suede when Terri wants Suede to forgo his intent to drape their shirt and instead cut out a design to conserve the fabric. Suede doesn’t “feel comfortable” with this and his overt display of such discomfort drove Terri to exasperation. She confessed that she “doesn’t know what [Suede’s] packing, balls or a vajayjay, but no one is sucking on my [bleep] so he better man up!”
