How to Find a Mandarin Pen Pal Girlfriend
- 1). Respond to or post an ad on a language exchange website, such as My Language Exchange or Pen Pal Party. Language exchange websites enable you to find a pen pal who speaks Mandarin and is interested in beginning a relationship. If you don't have any luck finding a pen pal girlfriend online, visit the Chinese department of a local college to post an ad on a bulletin board or check out a nearby Chinatown. Keep your ad brief and to-the-point. Include your e-mail address so potential girlfriends can contact you.
- 2). Contact a Mandarin speaking girl or respond to one that contacted you. Note that many mainland Chinese residents do speak Cantonese, so your new girlfriend may live in Taiwan. Write her a physical letter or send her a brief email in Mandarin. Tell her a little bit about yourself and include a picture for a faster response.
- 3). Brush up on your written Chinese. If your character recognition skills are rusty, spend some time studying. If you plan to chat online with your new girlfriend via instant messenger, you need to be able to read Chinese characters. Review Chinese character flash cards online or make sure you have a Chinese-to-English dictionary handy.
- 4). Contact your girlfriend frequently, but do not become obsessive. Write your girlfriend an email every day or send her a few letters, but avoid compulsively contacting her several times a day unless she asks you to. Realize that even though you are far apart, it's possible to become overbearing.
