How to Easily Shoot 3-Pointers
- 1). "Square up" to the rim, with your feet evenly under your shoulders as you face the hoop. Make sure both of your feet are behind the three-point line. Keep your weight on the balls of your feet (not the heels) and bend your knees slightly. Hold the ball in your shooting hand and place your non-shooting hand on the side of ball—keep it lined up with the basket. Line the ball up with your face (the center of your body), as opposed to your shoulder or ear (which is the natural tendency for beginners).
- 2). Shoot a jump shot from three-point range the same way, but first take an extra moment to line up the shot. Jump straight up in the air, releasing the ball at the top of the jump. Whether you jump or not, keep your eyes focused on the front rim of the basketball hoop throughout the entire shot.
- 3). Bend your elbows to ninety degrees while raising the ball in front of your face (and then above it), shooting the ball when the ball is just above your head. Let the ball roll off of the fingers of your shooting hand and keep your other hand in-line with the basket. Concentrate on maintaining an accurate, fluid motion throughout the entirety of the shot. Let your wrist flop over naturally as you release the ball.
- 4). Hold the follow through on your shot and allow your hand to stay in the air for a few seconds following release. This will ensure that the ball will travel on a straight path to the basket.
