    • 1). Clean the stove top. Remove any hardware on your stove top and set it aside. Wipe the stove top with a damp sponge to remove oil or dirt sticking to the surface of the stove.

    • 2). Rub the stove top with a coarse sandpaper to create a rough surface. Wipe the stove top with a clean cloth to remove the dust left from sanding the top.

    • 3). Mask the areas of the stove top where you will not apply paint by taping over those areas with masking tape. Also, cover the areas around your stove top with a plastic sheet to protect them while you paint your stove.

    • 4). Shake the spray paint can for one minute. You should hear the mixing ball clatter around the can as you shake it. The mixing ball inside the can properly mixes the paint and prevents it from clogging the nozzle.

    • 5). Spray the stove top with the paint. Be sure to wear a protective face mask while you paint. You should also stand about a foot away from the stove top as you spray the paint. Leave the first coat to dry for 10 minutes. Then apply another coat of paint. Let the stove top paint dry for six to 10 hours.

    • 6). Remove the masking tape from the stove top. Wipe the stove surface with a clean cloth and then reattach the hardware to the top of the stove.
