How to Create Distressed Wood
- 1). Sand the wood with the fine-grade sandpaper.
- 2). Fill any large nicks or holes in the wood with wood putty or wood fill.
- 3). Allow the wood fill or putty to dry completely.
- 4). Sand the wood again with fine-grade sandpaper to remove any residue from the wood putty.
- 5). Wipe down the wood with a painter's tack cloth.
- 6). Distress the wood by hitting it with a section of heavy chain across the surface.
- 7). Create scratches and dents on the surface with screwdrivers, chisels, and other tools.
- 8). Apply a light coat of stain to the wood using a brush.
- 9). Allow to dry completely. Wipe down with a clean rag.

Apply another coat of stain if you would like a darker finish. Allow to dry thoroughly. - 11
Apply a thin coat of clear polyurethane sealer to finish the project. Let dry.
