The ever increasing desire for patio awnings has produced a new market for awnings. These awnings can be purchased at little cost and can be self installed by any person with a knowledge of DIY. The great variety of awnings can, however, intimidate those with little knowledge of the market. This is a starting point for anyone interested in awnings.

The cheapest resolution is to think about a manual awning. These awnings function using fully retractable arms which are controlled by a winding handle. The patio awnings can be extended to the required amount. Manual awnings are widely available and reasonably priced. Once you have mounted the brackets to the wall, the awning can be lifted onto them. Two people will be required to lift the awning so as to ensure safe lifting and accurate placement onto the brackets. The awning is then ready to use straight away.
Electric awnings similarly, operate in the same fashion but need some wiring to connect the awning motor to a mains supply. Again, the basic process of mounting brackets and then lifting the awning onto them applies, however, the wiring adds another challenge. The advantage of the extra work is obvious with the effort saved not winding the awning manually. Although more expensive, electric awnings are much easier to operate.

After installation, awnings are designed to last for several years. Taking good care to keep the awning out of the rain and excessive wind will of course prolong the lifespan of the item. The awning fabric, will endure lighter weather conditions but is bound to deteriorate if neglected for an extended period of time. Waterproof awning covers are sold widely to protect in harsh weather whilst replacement fabrics are also an option should the existing fabric fall victim to foul weather.

The majority of suppliers offer replacements for when repair is in order. All basic awnings parts should be readily available including wind, sun and rain sensors, or even replacement covers so you can change the colour of your awning.
